How to use Mingle at your event
Create a shared room, invite guests to join on their phones, and give everyone a friendly prompt to start a conversation. This guide walks hosts and players through the whole game, from setup to the final bingo.
Create your live room
- Open Mingle. Go to mingle.vihaya.app and choose Host a game.
- Name the event. Add the event name guests will see. Add your name if you want it shown while they wait.
- Choose a prompt set. Pick Community & meetup, Conference & networking, or Campus & college fest.
- Make it yours. Optionally customize the card with exactly 16 prompts, one per line.
- Create the room. Keep this browser session open on the host device so you can manage the room.
Your event room starts in a lobby. Guests can join while it is waiting; the host starts the game when the group is ready.
Share the room with your guests
From the host view, copy the invite link or share the 8-character room code. Put the link in your event chat, show the code on a slide, or ask guests to scan a QR code you make from the link.
- Guests open the link or Mingle. If they have the code, they choose Join with a code and enter it.
- They add a display name. Use a first name or the name people at the event will recognize.
- They wait in the lobby. The card appears when the host starts the round.
- The host checks the roster. Guest names appear in the room. At least one guest must join before the host can start.
Play one conversation at a time
- Choose a square. Read its prompt and find someone who fits it.
- Start with the question. Introduce yourself and ask in a friendly, low-pressure way.
- Record the match. Tap the square and enter the name they want people to use. You can edit or remove a match later.
- Keep going. Meet more people and fill your 4×4 card. A horizontal, vertical or diagonal line makes bingo.
Each player has a personal card. Your card and matches are private from other players; the event host can see who joined the room, not the names on your card.
Give people time to connect
When the roster is ready, the host selects Start the game. Give guests about 10–15 minutes for a first round. Walk around, welcome anyone who looks unsure, and remind people they can skip a prompt.
When it is time to wrap up, the host chooses End the game. Invite a few guests to share a recommendation or something they learned. The goal is a good conversation, whether or not someone gets bingo.
Choose prompts that fit your crowd
Mingle has three starter decks, and hosts can replace them with 16 custom prompts. Good prompts are specific, inclusive, easy to ask out loud, and likely to lead to a short story.
- Has travelled somewhere they would visit again
- Can recommend a local café
- Is attending this event for the first time
- Has a hobby they picked up this year
- Can speak more than one language
- Works in a different field from you
- Can teach a small skill in two minutes
- Has a book, film or podcast recommendation
Adapt wording to your audience. A student fest can use campus and club prompts; a professional conference can ask about projects, industries or skills. Avoid prompts about health, income, identity, or other sensitive personal details.
Know what is shared and for how long
Guests do not need accounts. The host sees the names of people who join; players see and edit their own card. Room and player data are set to expire after 24 hours. Keep the host device or browser session available until you have finished managing the room.
Fix common hiccups
- Code not working: check all 8 characters with the host and confirm the room has not ended or expired.
- Can’t start the round: at least one guest needs to join first. Check that their name appears in the host roster.
- Guest is still waiting: the host needs to select Start the game; ask them to keep their Mingle page open.
- Host controls are missing: return to the same browser session that created the room. The host access is kept on that device.
- Lost connection: refresh the page. If the room is still active, the player’s session can reconnect on that device.
